The working title for this series, The Madonna and the Whore, came from the widely used definition of the Madonna-Whore Complex, which is used when referring to men who view women as two distinct and separate personas, that of saint and sinner, or of mother and whore. The myth is that these men want Traci Lords in the bedroom and Delia Smith in the kitchen. Western psychology talks of how when men (who cheat) cannot combine sex and love in one relationship, they may split their love according to the Madonna-Whore Complex. As Freud wrote, 'Where they love they cannot desire; where they desire they cannot love.'
However, this series doesn't concentrate on men and their complexes, hence I have now settled on a new name. I wanted to show that these roles are not something imposed on us but something within us. Hence if you smile while doing the washing it might mean you're thinking of something that makes you happy - are happy. Not conforming to some role given to you nor trying to fight against it. You're just being you. Every woman has these roles (and many more) within themselves and there's nothing wrong in exploring them. I also wanted the pictures to look staged, so it detaches you from the woman in question and makes you think it could be anyone.
Note: I am sorry about the watermarks, but as I'm hoping for this series to develop into something more substantial, I really can't risk them being ripped. I am feeling somewhat weary about submitting them in the first place.

...interesting that she is waiting in both aspects of her life... the missterss and the maid...
great work on the setting, the costumes, meake up and pose.
I also love how the right photo has somehwat washed out colors that lack intensity in comparison to the vibrant and seductive purple of the silk sheets in the bedroom shot...as it amplifies the drained out feeling, of a used and neglected house-wife... whose care and concern for the family sometimes fall hard on her...over shadowing her own interests and self fullfillment...
I have seen the very same theme, approached with a different concept live just recently, also in the photography medium... where the mother and wife (as well as the photographer) hand-made a small book of consecutive photographs creating a story line of a fallen angel who has decided to leave the righteous wings behind...as they have become too heavy and opressive...it is a very controvesial topic...as many eyebrows will rise over the issue whether or not a woman has a right to just leave everything behind even for an instant.
i love it
i completely understand the concept, it's true, we have so many roles, we are not just one thing, good girl can be wild at bed and so on...
this is def. a fav
wow, great concept here !! I find the left part is really classy and the look of the woman absolutely gorgeous. Another "magazine shot" from you. Well done
Onhan tää nyt sitten vaan aivan mahtava. Eikä kukaan ole pahoittanu mieltään noist merkinnöistä. Ja hienosti on mallisikin hoitanut työnsä vaikka sitä ilmeisesti olikin epäillyt.
Thank you for taking the time to write such a toughtful comment.
I know it's a subject matter/myth that has been approached a lot, especially in writing. Most love triangle books and films etc. always dance around the theme. I guess I was initially inspired by the stereothypical roles these men project on women, but wanted to look at it from a womans point of view, as richness, not pressure. We shall see how it develops.
We want to know what love means to you!
Get your creative juices flowing and design a movie poster for "Paper Heart" that focuses on the theme "What Does Love Mean to Me?".
